'Baahubali' director SS Rajamouli, family test positive for Covid-19

'Baahubali' director SS Rajamouli and his family have tested positive for Covid-19, the 46-year-old said in a tweet.

Taking to Twitter to share the news of his diagnosis, the film-maker said that they had got themsleves tested after developing a mild fever that has since subsided. He said that none of them had any major symptoms, and were isolating at home, "following all the precautions and instructions".

Corona Virus updates - Sikkim reports first Covid death, extends lockdown till Aug 1

With nearly 50,000 cases for the third consecutive day, the total number of corona virus infections in India rose to 13,85,522 on sunday ( 26.7.2020).  The death toll rose to 32,063 with 705 deaths in the last 24 hours.

On the other hand, the first Covid-19 death case has been reported in the state of Sikkim.  He is a 74 year old with comorbidities from East Sikkim.  The Sikkim Government on sunday extended its lockdown till 1st August, 2020,  A 74 year old man from Rongli passed away this morning in the Covid-19 wing of STNM Hospital.  He had comorbidities and suffering from diabetes and hyper tension.

While addressing the nation using his monthly radio address 'Man Ki Baat', Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while India is in a better position when compared to other countries, there is no room for ignorance.  Today the recovery rate is much better than any other country.  Our fatality rate is much less than most of the other countries..

Nearly 16 million people have been infected globally and 6.4 lakhs people has died due to corona virus.

The North Korean leader Kim Jong Un placed the city of Kaesong near the border with South Korea under total lock down after a person was found with suspected COVID-19 symptoms saying the virus may have entered the country


AIIMS Delhi Gives 30-year-old Man 1st Dose of Bharat Biotech's Potential Coronavirus Vaccine - Covaxin

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences ( AIIMS ), New Delhi has administered its first dose of Bharat Biotech's 'Covaxin' to a 30 year old man on Friday.  The development comes days after the ethics committee gave approval to AIIMS, Delhi to begin human trails of the potential Covid-19 vaccine..

The next dose of the medicine will be given to the subject after a period of two weeks during which he will be monitored.  AIIMS, Delhi is one of the 12 sites selected by ICMR for conducting the Phase-I and II randomized, double-blind and placebo controlled clinical trials of Covaxin

Dr. Sanjay Rai, who is the principal investigator of Cvid-19 vaccine trails at AIIMS told that the first dose of 0.5 ml of the intramuscular vaccine was given to the subject on Friday and the person was observed for 2 hours.  Dr. Rai also said that a diary was given to him to constantly monitor his conditions and make observations.  The medical team would coordinate with the person daily for a week to understand if he encounters any medical issues,

The phase I and II clinical trials of the vaccine for SARS-CoV-2 by Bharat Biotech have been approved by the Indian drug regulator after pre-clinical studies demonstrated safety and immune response.
The company has developed the vaccine in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV).

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tests positive for coronavirus

The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Sri Shivaraj Singh Chouhan on saturday became the first Chief Minister to test Positive for the novel corona virus.  He is likely to get admitted to Chirayu hospital in the capital city of Bhopal.  

The Chief Minister disclosed the news on Twitter on saturday.  His announcement came days after Cabinet Minister Arvind Bhandoria tested positive for the disease.  The cabinet minister has travelled with CM to Lucknow to attend the funeral of Governor Lalji Tandon earlier this week.

Cipla launching Covid-19 treatment drug Ciplenza in August at Rs 68 per tablet

The Indian pharmaceutical company Cipla has announced that they received regulatory approval by the drug controller general of India for launching the Favipiravir in the Country which will be sold under the brand name Ciplenza for restricted emergency use for the treatment of  Corona Virus patients. ( Covid 19 patients )

Cipla gets nod to launch affordable Favipiravir in India for treatment of COVID-19 patients Cipla has announced that as a part of its efforts to meet the demand for the medicine, the commercial launch of the Ciplenza will take place in first week of August 2020 and they are charging Rs. 68 per tablet.

In order to ensure fair distribution of the drug,  supplies will be undertaken through hospital channels and via open channels.  Priority would be given for places of high burden of Covid-19 cases.

The drug has been jointly developed by Cipla and CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology.  Favipiravir is an off patent, oral antiviral drug, originally discovered by Fuji Pharma in Japan and showed promising results in clinical trials for treatment of Covid patients especially in mild and moderate cases.

Director of CSIT-IICT  Sri S,Chandrasekhar was quoted by news agency PTI as saying that the technology transferred to Cipla is very efficient and affordable allowing the company to make large quantities of the drug within a short span of time.

So it is a good news that the drug will be released in Indian market very soon.

Former Chief Priest of Tirumala temple passes away

Former Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams ( TTD ) chief priest Sri P. Srinivasa Murthy Dikshitulu who is 75 years old has passed away on early hours of Monday at SVIMS Hospital in Tirupathi.

He developed severe respiratory congestion on Saturday night and was rushed to the hospital where he was reportedly diagnosed positive for COVID 19

Week long lockdown in Kolhapur started on 20th July 2020

Kolhapur on Sunday reported a surge of 281 COVID-19 cases, taking the district’s total case tally to 2,141, ahead of a week-long lockdown starting Monday.
Last week, Kolhapur Guardian Minister and senior Congress leader Satej Patil said there were no plans for a lockdown as it would severely affect economic activity in the district. He said, “The drastic surge in cases, especially a 200-plus case spike in the past two days, has forced us to enforce a stern lockdown to break the virus chain. There are 1,753 beds available in the district and the medical infrastructure is ready to cope with the crisis.

India stands in 3rd position in Corona Virus cases in the world with USA and Brazil in top 2 positions.  India saw a record single-day jump of 40,425 COVID-19 cases on sunday itself ( 19th July, 2020) pushing its tally past the 11 lakh mark on Monday while the total recoveries crossed 7 lakhs, according to Union Health Ministry data.  The\death toll due to the corona disease rose to 27,497 with 681 fatalities reported in one day.
